Import & Export

Cachly speaks GPX, the standard geocaching exchange format, and integrates pocket queries — so you can bring caches in from other tools and take your data with you.

Importing GPX

Import from GPX brings caches into Cachly from a .gpx or .zip file (Cachly unzips automatically) — a pocket query, or an export from another app or website. Cachly uses a streaming parser so even very large files import efficiently, and you choose an existing offline list or create a new one on import. You can bring a file in from:

  • Email — download the attachment, long-press it, Share → Cachly.
  • Dropbox / Google Drive — from the app (⋯ → Share/Open in → Cachly) or via the iOS Files app.
  • AirDrop — send a GPX/zip to Cachly from another device or a Mac.
  • Any app offering an iOS Share option for a GPX file.

Pocket queries

Pocket Queries are saved searches you set up on Geocaching.com (a premium-membership feature) that the service runs for you. Cachly can download your ready pocket queries directly and load them in — a fast way to bring a curated set of caches onto your device.

Pocket queries are created and scheduled on Geocaching.com and require premium membership. Cachly downloads the results once they’re generated.

Exporting GPX

Export GPX writes caches back out to a .gpx file — available from the Live tab, an offline list, or a cache’s details. Choose the scope (All, Visible, or Highlighted caches) and what to include:

  • Include Logs — stored cache logs.
  • Include Waypoints — all associated waypoints.
  • Include GSAK Extensions — GSAK-specific data (needed for favorite-point tracking).
  • Include Private Data — sensitive info such as solved-puzzle coordinates and personal notes (handy for team caching).

Cachly also writes your highlight colors into the GPX using its own tags, so a cache you export and later re-import into Cachly keeps the color you gave it.

Exports can be shared device-to-device over AirDrop with no internet — the recipient picks an app and an offline list to receive the caches.

My Finds GPX

For Counties/Regions and DeLorme Grid PRO, import a My Finds pocket query GPX (geocaching.com › Premium Tools › Build pocket queries › My Finds) via the Import Data button. After the first import, new finds logged in Cachly auto-register. Note: Adventure Lab finds aren’t included in GPX files.

Managing imported files

The Imported Files screen lists files you’ve brought in, so you can re-import or remove them. You can also receive GPX files from other apps via the iOS share sheet and open them straight into Cachly.
