Sync & Backup

Cachly can sync your data across your devices and back it up to the cloud, so a new phone or a reinstall doesn’t mean starting over.

iCloud Sync

Cachly uses iCloud for a specific, small set of data. When iCloud is turned on for Cachly (in the iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud app list), these sync between your iPhone and iPad through the iCloud key-value store:

• Highlights — which caches you’ve highlighted and in which color, plus your custom highlight color labels.
• Search history — the recent terms behind the clock icon in the map search field.
• Recently viewed caches — the history of cache pages you’ve opened.
• Filter & search templates — your saved live search templates (the template currently selected on each device stays local).
• Auto-Visit trackables — the trackables you’ve marked to visit automatically, kept per geocaching.com account.
• Adventure Lab finds — which Adventure Labs you’ve marked as found.

Photos attached to personal notes are stored separately in iCloud Drive, so they need iCloud Drive enabled as well as iCloud for Cachly.

Everything else stays on the device: offline lists and the caches in them, pending logs and drafts, found-but-not-logged checkmarks, settings, text templates and offline maps are not synced. To move those to another device, use a backup or the database file.

Backups & Restore

Cachly can create backups of your data to the cloud. The Backups screen lists your backups so you can restore one — invaluable when moving to a new device or recovering after a reinstall. You can browse the underlying iCloud documents from the iCloud files screen.

Backing Up the Database File

For a full manual copy, the database file Cachly.sqlite holds all your offline lists and pending logs (but not settings). Grab it two ways:

• Files app: Browse › On My iPhone › Cachly, long-press Cachly.sqlite and Share (e.g. AirDrop to a computer).
• Finder / iTunes File Sharing: connect the device, select it, choose File Sharing › Cachly, select Cachly.sqlite and Save.

To restore, add your saved Cachly.sqlite back via File Sharing (Add), confirming the overwrite.

Dropbox & Google Drive

Cachly also integrates with Dropbox and Google Drive, letting you move files (such as GPX) to and from those services for import/export workflows. See Import & Export.
